Winter Tires for V70 T5 2001 V70-XC70 2001

Have a new V70 T 5 2001. Very nice car. Has 17" wheels. For winter I have been told to get snow tires and rims in the 16" tire size. Live in mid west and we still get winter at times. Question does it make sense to go to 16" wheels and tires. Does this affect the car, speedometer, brake caliper clearance??? Appreciate help on this qiestion. thanks

Yea, go with the 16" so you get more rubber between you and the road (ice/snow?) Not really for better traction in the snow, that is up to how good the tire is, but because there are usually more bumps and holes on the road in the winter. More rubber means a bit more shock absorbtion. BUT, taller tires means a bit less handling in the tight corners, so go easier when you get them.

The reason you're being told to go 16" on the snows is no doubt for the "reverse Plus sizing" effect. (Minus Sizing?)

Your 17" rims have low profile tires, more than likely. You'd want a taller, and preferable narrower, snow tire without changing the overall outside diameter of the tire.

Read all about it at www.tirerack.com they do a good job explaining just about everything.
