Door Latch V70-XC70

Help! Drivers door will not open although button goes up and down. Have removed door panel and can manually move unlocking mechanism but door remains locked. I can see a sealed black box which I assume houses the actual lock - assumption based on looking at other door. How to I either get the door open to remove and, I assume, replace the entire latch mechanism? Would appreciate a timely reply - I'm 6'7" and got in with great difficulty and can't seem to get back out.
Thanks,
John Hamilton

Another normally sized person!! Getting in the driver's seat is a real problem when my size 15s have to go in the footwell first :)

You should have the door open by now. There is a small black metal switch just under the latch on the outside of the door, where it attaches to the B pillar. Flip that switch forward to lock the door, then use the handle to unlock it. If it is stuck, a little WD40 goes a long way.

Holy CRAP! You guys have both got like a whole foot on me - I'm 5'7" and 145 lbs, and haven't grown in years. I bet you're good at basketball though =D

Anyway, there is also a cable inside the door that runs from the interior door handle to the latch mechanism itself. Mine was starting to tear when I took apart mine to fix a door check - I stapled the heck out of the cable & fixed the plastic holder as well. I know it's probably not your problem, but it is something you may want to have a look at while you're in there and conjure up a fix for so it won't break in the future.

I'm sure you've seen the piece I'm talking about, but here's another link anyway.

    John,
I had this happen to my S70 passenger door. I am assuming neither the inside or outside door handles will open the door. if you have the door panel off, look at the black plastic lock mechinism. You will see part of a small brass lever on the outside edge towards the bottom of the plastic. Push the lever with a screwdriver and the door should open. The lock is held in by 2 torx screws on the outside of the door. Replacement is not fun...it's like a chinese puzzle. The lock is larger than the hole but with some turning and tilting, it will come out. Good Luck

I've got the black plastic box but no brass lever or any other type of lever anywhere. Thanks for the response though - really appreciate it. Always have my PV to fall back on.

If it is the same latch as mine, it will be a brass strip on the end of the plastic box facing toward the front of the car on the side facing the outside of the door. It doesn't look like a lever with the lock in the door...looks like a little brass strip...push it with a screwdriver
