Knock Sensor 850

I'm getting a engine code 143 which is a missing front knock sensor signal. Do the knock sensors on the 850's retard the timing like they do for the turbo 740's and if so would the missing knock sensor signal permanently retard the timing? Engine starts and runs fine but has little power.

Correct. When the knock signal is missing, ECU defaults to knock present condition and you will run rich and timing is retarded.

A good time to replace the hoses for the oil separator and vacuum elbows.

Take a photo of the knock sensor positions, it is critical to put the new ones on in the same direction - wiring tail pointing.
