S40 DSA switch S40-V40 2000

Driving US S40 for year.

Still can't figure out how DSA switch/light working.

My gueess:

- Normal start DSA light off. DSA ON?

- On slippery road DSA light flashing - DSA working?

- Press and hold DSA switch - light comes on and stays on -DSA is OFF?

Am I correct?

Manual is not clear about it.

Thanks

    Boy!

My wife was test driving a V40 so I took the chance to quickly glance through the owners manual. From the description in the owners manual DSA is nothing more than traction control?!?

I thought DSA was like "Active Handling", "ESP", or whatever you want to call some yaw sensors and all that.

    So which is it?

    Thanks!

      Re: S40 DSA switch S40-V40 2001

DSA only limits the amount of wheelspin it detects (using the ABS sensors) by reducing torque from the engine (shutting off injection cycles).

It is *not* a stability-control system like ESP on the MB's or DSTC on the big Volvo's.

      Bye, Arno.

So how does it differ from TRACS? My brochure says the V40 has TRACS *and* DSA. DSA sounds like traction control.

Or perhaps the better question is, does DSA help on snowy and icy roads?

          True.

Difference is that TRACS only works in very low speeds (eg. taking off) and it controls wheelspin by applying a brake on the wheel which is spinning. DSA functions across the whole speed range.

TRACS is probably a bit better at preventing wheelspin at low speeds because it can brake the actual spinning wheel, while DSA only reduces power output.

          Bye, Arno.
