Went to pick up new tires today from discount tire (somewhat related to discount tire direct online store). I had already chosen and paid for four Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum.
I asked them to show me the date of manufacture before installing. I was there with my son so got distracted showing him around the store. When i went in the garage area to check them putting it on my son's future car ( he is 5 :) ) they showed a manufacture date of 0808 which is eight week of 2008.
Both the store manager and Kumho 'wearhouse person' in GA told me they would honour 6yr warranty from date of purchase on this 60K tire. I was just of the point of view that regardless of my tire condition i would throw them out on their sixth year because of rubber compound degradation. So in effect i was paying for tires which would only be good for four years now that it is 2010 already.
I asked them to either reduce initial cost or get me recently manufacture tires. Comments?
All the tires I have purchased in the past have been recently manufactured (within the year) ... same for the rest of y'all?
