Fuel Cap Pollution Control S70 98

Took my S70 to Volvo of Dallas a couple of weeks sgo with the infomous Check Engine Light diong its thing. Dealer ran diognostics and came back

with info reguarding a failure with pollution control equipment. Said the estimate to repair was for $500 plus. According to service adviser, this was due to topping off the gas tank. Having been recently laid off, I asked if they could reset the Check Engine and run for a while to make sure its was not just a false trip. Sure enough, the mechanic came back and informed the SA that the diagnostic came back clean.

Of course, two weeks later on my way to the library, on came the Chack Engine again. Anyone else experienced this, and were they able to get the dealer to warranty. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Make sure the gas cap clicks 3 times when you close it to get

a good seal. You never want to drive with the cap loose or

off since that will set codes.

I bet the cap has a gasket -- I'd replace that first.

Not sure about topping off but I never do that.

Emmisson controls have a different warranty then the rest

of the car. It will vary by state (some require them to

be repaired up to 100K miles). So, check your owners manual

warranty book for the section on emission controls and check

for any special warranties for your state. You may be covered.

Re: Fuel Cap Pollution Control S70 98

      Thanks,

I don't top off the tank, or intentionally top it off. I did drive home

with the fuel cap door open last week, and the cap hooked on the hinge.

Apparently a bonehead move. Oh well, seems the dealer has been making an

effort to fleece me lately. Charged $50.00 to reset the Check Engine light. On the same trip in, the dealer refused to fix a faulty door lock assembly (the second one), under warranty. Went home and got a copy of warranty and reschedule repair after threatening to contact Volvo. Same dealer refused to fix a faulty EGR valve. Service advisor made a comment

that not all Certified Warranties were the same, and the amount you purchased your auto for, determined what was covered. I love my car, but the auto group that purchased the dealer of which I purchased my car from

has been a real pain to deal with.

Oh, and as I left the dealer a couple of weeks ago, the service adviser

said Volvo would be contacting me, and anything less than an excellent review would lead to his termination.

I get comments from my service adviser as well, saying the same thing about 'anything less than excellent is failure' even though they have only fixed 2 out of 12 warranty service items properly on the first visit (I have been keeping count). I like my car, but despise my dealer's service.
