Reset the Service Interval Reminder light V70-XC70 1998

For V70 1998 model, Volvo does not offer any user procedure to reset the light. I followed a tip from this forum and purchased the tool from obd-2.com ($122). After some trials, it could reset it once but at the next engine start, the light comes back. Returned the tool.

Then I found a much simpler tool at http://www.obd2.com/lightreset/light_reset_tools.htm ($159)

Plugged in and it worked in 6 seconds.

Just a tip for those that are still searching for a tool.

    Check out the website for Volvo Club of America (VCOA). A recent issue of their "Rolling" magazine had an article explaining how to reset the service light in virtually all models of Vovlo.

      I have a '98 V70. How do I reset the service light?

      I went to the VCOA site, but could not find any articles.

      BTW, a recent poll on this board shows that 85% of us change our own oil.

        I noticed that Sullivan owns a 2000 V70.

        1999-2001 V70 and many other Volvo cars have a user procedure to reset the SIR light.

        According to other postings in this forum, 1998 V70 (the first year model for V70) doesn't have such a user procedure. You have to use some kind of scan tools to reset it.

        I confirmed this with local Volvo dealer and Customer Services of Volvo of America (though I don't trust them fully).

        If somebody knows otherwise, please share the info.

          You are correct. I looked in a back issue of "Rolling" to double-check for Tom. The 1998 model does require a "reset tool."
