high rpm's at start and rpm's don't come down when gas petal is released. 850

When I started the car, the car would rev to about 2500 - 3000 rpm's for a few seconds then settled at about 1000 with a rough idle. While still in park, I gave the car gas til about 3500 rpm's and released the pedal and the engine continued to rev at 3500. It wouldn't come down after about 10 seconds so I tuned off the engine. Now it won't start at all.

Any input would be a great help.

Thanks, Nick

Try reseating the MAS plug and check for a cracked intake bellows. I don't think it's recommended to push down on the gas while starting a 850.

It is time to get a throttle body gasket, remove the TB and clean it real good. Also, lube the throttle cable 'wheel' in case grit penetrated it, or salt water.
I'm sure you have already replaced the vacuum lines with silicone lines :) for your nice car.

Thanks for your reply. As always, I'm going to take your advise and see what happens.
I forgot to mention earlier that when I shut off the engine, the throttle body cover was vibrating and making a humming sound. More input would be great.

      Thanks again, Nick

Below the throttle cover is a round cylinder, that's the idle air control. The IAC is always on when the key is at the on position and will humm. Your 1995 is probably due for a little cleaning. If you are careful with taking the hose clamps off, they can be reused.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't start again, but my early fuel injected Buick wouldn't start if I pushed on the gas at ALL while trying to start it, so that could be what it is.

I'd suggest taking off the throttle assembly cover, I circled it in this picture:

Check to make sure the throttle moves freely, and that there are no kinks in your accelerator cable. If that looks alright, I'd then look at the throttle body to see if it's sticking.

The idle control valve (do you still hear a buzzing when you turn the ignition to II?) can sometimes go bad or get dirty on these cars - that's in the same area, and you can clean it with carb cleaner or something similar.

Those are some ideas to start you off - I'll be glad to try to help more once you start eliminating things, and I'm sure others will chime in with ideas as well.

Thanks for your reply. I did hear a buzzing noise when I shut the engine off. Now that I know where to start, I am going to look around and clean as much as I can and see what happens.

      Thanks again, Nick.
