Climate control 850 1993

Greetings! I recently had my heater blower motor rebuilt (new brushes bushings). Prior to this the motor worked fine, but was squeeking alot, so I figured i'd have it serviced. Upon reinstalling the motor, now barely any air blows out of the vents. The motor turns fine and blows plenty of air when tested out of the vehicle, but when in the car the air does not seem to be emitted from any of the vents. How do I diagnose and correct this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Climate control blower motor failure + Volvo response 850 MANY

How did they manage(?) to remove and suitably reattach the squirrel cage

    to the motor shaft???

    Or maybe they didn't...?!

I'd love to know if this is even possible, before I give up on the idea of

servicing/maintenance and throw dollars at a[nother] replacement (or just

put up with it and re-re-re-oil the bearings a few days before

    sale/trade-in)...

I just got a letter from Volvo indicating that the goal of their warranty

replacement was not to improve the car nor the part, but to relieve VCNA of

their warranty obligation! They did this by not improving the part nor

solving the mechanical deficiency nor its cause, but instead by providing

the repl part with a much quicker-lapsing warranty, which makes it OK with

Volvo if the $200 fans fail every 55K miles or so (and that's WITH a pollen

filter; perhaps the restrictiveness of the filter out-weighs cleaner air in

terms of bearing longevity advantage -- thanks again to Eunice Stern of

VCNA who sent me, gratis, a way-too-restrictive "hybrid" activated charcoal

filter, after the new standard filters proved ineffective compared to the

original electrostatically-charged ones, and which was in place when the

    2nd motor's bearing[s] began to fail at 108K mi).

I wonder if Audis have this problem...

It was the optional availability of an electrostatically-charged cabin air

filters that pushed me over the edge in terms of buying decision when I

bought my Volvo -- they even touted how efficient and effective it was, and

now every time I hear my 2nd fan motor bearings talking/singing to me,

they're reminding me that Volvo no longer offers this (as the feature went

from optional to standard circa 1997, they cheapened the filter to the

point where its efficiency is a joke, and it's not even worth having any

more IMO; I've been making my own, and that's a big pain in the schedule...)!

Yes I removed my blower squirrel cage fan from the motor shaft. First I cleaned the rust from the end of the shaft. Then I oiled the end of the shaft and noted how far down the shaft the plastic fan was located. I placed the plastic blower fan on a workbench with the motor hanging down through the opening in the bench. I now used a hammer to strike down on the shaft. After a few blows I noticed the plasic fan had moved. I continued and after using a metal drift to move the shaft the last inch through the center of the fan the blower was free. Assembly was easy (press fit).
