Volvo Sales slipped 25.6 percent! Ouch!!!

FYI,

Ford Nov. U.S. sales up 4.4% (F) By August Cole

Ford Motor said Monday that November U.S. sales of cars and trucks rose 4.4 percent, with the truck segment setting another monthly record. Overall, the world's No. 2 automaker (F) sold 313,906 vehicles. The company also said it will produce 980,000 vehicles during the first quarter of 2001. Mercury sales rose 23 percent while in the premier auto group sales of Lincoln fell 10.5 percent, Volvo slipped 25.6 percent, Land Rover rose 15.6 percent and Jaguar jumped 38.3 percent. Re: OK everybody, calm down.

That's the problem with bulletin boards - two easy for anonymous, long-distance indignant exchanges when face-to-face the discussion would take place at a less scalding temperature.

It's altogether too easy to inadvertently overstate a case (25% appears to refer to November) and in the heat of the moment to over-react (puh-leeze!).

Now if only someone would pull this thread...

You are way OFF! Check your numbers again! ALL

I don't know where you got your numbers but according to Volvo Cars of North America, LLC, when September 2001 ended 96,869 Volvos had been sold vs. 93,963 by 9/30/2000.

According to the Automotive News issue of November 5, 2001, Volvo had sold (by 10/31/01) 107,324 units vs. 104,368 by 10/31/00. So, by 10/31/01 Volvo sales were UP by 2.8% vs. the pace of 2000. I doubt that in one month Volvo went gtom +2.8% to -25.6%.

Thought you might like to know!

      Hi Yantis,

No my numbers are not off. My source is your boss. You know William "Ford".

My Post is directly copied from Reuters new service on Ford Motor Co press announcement yesterday stating the Company sales for the Month of November. It is not a year to date sale announcement.

I am not going to resort to, intentionally, change your name too because this will get ugly.

I understand you posted November sales figures but I wonder why you did not emphasize that on the subject titel. As you can see, the responses from the others show that one is taking your post figuratively and assume Volvo sales are going to hell, altogether.

Who gives a rat's behibd if one month is off by whatever. One month does not establish anything, especially in the type of year that our economy is trying to wade through. Anyway, the numbers (YTD) speak for the truth.

Lastly, last time I checked, the last name of the person(s) I work for have nothing to do with a "Ford"...He is my boss as much as he is yours...

          Hi Yantis,

As a person who makes their living selling a supporting Volvos you should have a better attitude when you make a posting to this bulletin board.

All of the people who read and post to this bulletin board are either Volvo Customers or individuals who have some affiliation with Volvo. You as a New Car Sales Manager for Stillman Volvo should be using this tool as a mean of helping and supporting Customers. Not attacking an over sight in an information posting on Volvo Sales for the Month of November.

If you were a person who really wants to help and improve Volvo's image you would have pointed out my error and not left me with the impression of attacking me. This fits in with most of the Volvo people I have dealt with "ARROGANT".

I am a first time Volvo Customer who purchased (what I though at the time to be a great car) a 1999 V70 XC. I though I was buying a safe and reliable car. However, my experience to date has been nothing too be happy or brag about. An attempt was made to cheat me by the Salesman when I purchased the car (my Wife will not even set foot on the Dealers lot). I have been insulated to my face by some jerk Factor Rep. over an issue I had with my transmission. The car itself is plagued with component failures. The over all experience had been one of the worse car ownership experiences I have ever had. At this time I would never recommend a Volvo to anyone.

The true sad part is not only will I not buy another Volvo Product but what damage I can do over time in not recommending potential future customers not to buy a Volvo product? I can safely say at this time I have stopped the sale of at least 6 Volvos (2 S60, 1 S40, 2 XC and 1 S80).

So Yanntis keep up the good work and make me madder so I can double my efforts in stopping friends, family and co-workers from make a big mistake in purchasing a Volvo product.

Best Wishes and have a Happy Holiday,

          Feeling cheated Volvo Customer,

          Steven---

Re: No My numbers are not off! ALL

            Steven,

I didn't even read the reply by yanass, but seeing your response tells me

he has not yet and probably never will get past his longstanding problem of

taking any not-pro-Volvo issues very personally and emotionally. You're

not the first who's wondered how such an outbursty abrasive type could

            possibly sell cars.

One day Mr. Ford will read this board and Yan will be out on his...

My 'salesman', too, tried to cheat me when I bought my car -- hey, he was

able to charge extra for side-impact airbags on some cars, so why not on

a '95 850 Turbo? (A: because they came standard on that model.)

But since then it has been the dealer that has several times come to my

aid after I got the shaft from VCNA. (For instance, my 850 arrived lacking

a lumbar support adjuster for the front passenger seat -- something else

that came standard on that model. VCNA's response?: as long as it's not

specifically and separately listed on the Monroney [window sticker], they

aren't legally required to provide it! -- good thing it said the car was

5-passenger, or they could have left out the front passenger seat

entirely!) Also, the new car was delivered with a bent driver's seat back

            (which, combined with the car's non-functional suspension, really hurt!);

VCNA said the seatback was on 6-month national back-order! (And this was

after the car's delivery was first delayed for some nondisclosed seat

problems with some 850s, but then Volvo decided the delay was unnecessary!)

Fortunately for my spine, the dealer cannibalized another car...

Volvo got tired of me pointing out deficiencies in the way my car was

built. I realize that correcting such deficiencies is not inexpensive, but

how can/dare they blame the customer for [noticing] them?

            Way to be, Volvo.

            Way to be, Yanass.

            Thanks, Steven, for reminding me...

            Oh my, Dweeben... ALL

Ah! I just knew it that there was something, just an element that was missing in this story! YOU ARE.......B-I-T-T-E-R!!! And here I was just ready to sympathize with you and your wife because you guys had, perhaps, dealt with someone incompetent and unprofessional who lied and cheated his way to your wallet. But even though one may think that could be the case, I kind of doubt it because of your attitude. As you know, there are TWO sides to each story...Besides that, I think you might be correct in one of your observations. Some humans end up being programmed with a special arrogance chip and, darn it, they all end up selling Volvos!!! Or...the real arrogant individuals end up being Volvo executives/representatives... Isn't that amazing?

So, I see you are extremely proud of your...kill record (meaning the Volvo deals you...canceled)...wow. Perhaps we should give you a "VOLVO killed sticker", for every one you managed. You know, like the little stickers they give to kindergarten kids only this one will be made with a big BLUE "V" on it and out of a fluorescent paint so that you can stick them all over your driver's door, sort of like the pilots of a fighter jet where they paint a flag for every plane they shoot down...That should make you even more proud, shouldn't it? By the way, I am very disappointed with you...You listed every single model in your kill list but not a V70 or a C70???? What's wrong with you? You just could not find anyone to spill your poison regarding those nasty FWD V70s? Or that overpriced, ugly looking C70? Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Anyway, I will let you go now...I just don't want to make you "madder" (sic) or "insulate to your face" (sic) anymore because I am pretty sure that kill list will triple overnight. And we can't have that...

Go ahead and asnwer but please make it good because you will not get another one from me...I promise. I just do want to make you "madder"...really!

Ditto, Steven. Yannis has been very informative and helpful at times BUT I have seen quite a few of his posts in response to some posters with the word 'MORON' in it. Coming from a sales manager this is very surprising to me (no offense).

                  Steven,

RELAX ! ... No need to get a heart attack over Yannis !

Obviously, as a SALES MANAGER, he needs to work on his attitude. His pay cheque relays on whether people buy the Volvo or not ! ... people don't buy, you know what happen, ...

Yannis reminds me of the sales manager that I was dealing with when I was

shopping for a Nissan Pathfinder last June ! ... When I tried to talk to

him about the price, his response was " Hey Kenny ! ... if you can't afford the Pathfinder XE, why don't you buy the Xterra ? " He wanted $36k

                  Cdn, I gave him $ 33k !

Well ... I walked out, and drove to the next Nissan dealership, where the sales manager was so nice and helpful that I handed a cheque to him on a

brand new Nissan Pathfinder SE ( Yes ! that is one model up from the XE )

for $ 36k ( It was asking for $ 38,000 ). The sales manager even threw in

a free cargo liner, and a beach chair !

Well ! ... I went back to the 1st dealership to buy a hood deflector and I saw a different sales manager. Hmm ... I wonder who suffers at the end !!

                  You tell me !

Thanks you so much for letting me know where he works as a sales manager.

He definitely won't earn my business, not that I will buy another Volvo !

In fact, I will be probably be selling my Volvo to a cousin, and buying a

                  BMW ( probably a base 528i ) next spring or/ summer ! ... Five years of

owning the S70 has been fun, but it is time to move on to a better sport

                  sedan !

So, he can called anybody anything he wants ! ... it is who suffers at the end of the day ! ... I study Business Management, Marketing, etc...

so I know the right's and wrong's ! ... There is a saying - " CUSTOMER ARE ALWAYS RIGHT, EVEN THOUGHT YOU KNOW THE CUSTOMER IS WRONG ! " ... Why ? ...

When you walk into that dealership to buy your Volvo, who was holding the

cheque book ? - You or the sales rep ( sale manager ). In which situation

are you more likely to hand over that cheque:

                  1) When the sales person treats you with respect and is totally helpful

                  or/

                  2) When the sales person is a " JERK " ( rude, unhelpful, attack you )

You tell me ! ... I am sure 99.99% of the people will agree with #1.

                  Have a great day !

                  --

    ...but why?

............no zero percent financing! My dealer sells Jag too and they're not selling either, despite those figures.

On the other hand, domestic cars with cheaper financing rates are selling like hotcakes. Go figure?

Another possible issue with Volvo, they're not doing well in overall consumer reviews from the feedback I'm seeing. Too many problems. They're not the cars they once were IMO and all they're boasting now is safety, nothing else that might trip some interest in why people buy cars.

      Hi,

a friend of mine recently bought a 2001 S60, brand new from the dealer with a 140 mi on it. The dealer said he couldn't sell the car in more than a year, and he also mentioned that he has at least 8-9 01 S60's in the new cars lot nobody wants to buy. Though a year old, the dealer did not provide any incentive on financing, and did not discount the car vary much.

        Re: ...but why?

I have another theory, too: the new design. The long-lived, proven brick-like shape of the Volvo was part of it's brand mystique...and an assurance that the changes you were buying in a new model year were engineering improvements, not a style make-over. Right now, you're buying both and that would make any buyer queazy. As the driving world gets more accustomed to seeing the new design (some of it clearly targeted for American taste), I expect numbers will go up.

Besides, there's a recession on. A big car payment is probably not top priority right now. A buyer can ride out the poor economy in a 0% car for a year or two...then get an AWD S60 when the some of the kinks have been worked out of it.
