T5 Silver interior trim- easy to add? Source? S70

Hi guys,

I'm close to purchasing a '99 T5 automatic. It's silver/grey, looks great. It has the factory wood trim. A few of the T5s I've looked at have had the factory silver (aluminum?) trim. Anyone added this? Is it cheap? Easy? Where did you get the pieces?

Thanks!!!

Andrew

Andrew,

Cheap? No.

Easy? That depends on your DIY skill level. There are three pieces--radio surround, glove box and center console. Any dealer can order it for you. Shop around for prices.

Bryan, can you give me an idea how much these parts cost? Just so I can have a benchmark price. If you say $xx and my dealership says $xx +$5000, I'll know that they're too high. ;-)

Andrew,

I just know the price for the center console. It is @$300.US at the local dealer in mid-Michigan. You can probably guesstimate the other pieces accordingly.

I would check around though since dealer mark-up can be pretty outrageous.

Best of luck,

Bryan

If you find any prices/sources that look good, please post it back on the board! I'm interested in this as well for the right price :)

I have the plain plasticy stuff right now, decided wood wasn't sporty enough for the T5-M :)

Scott,

When you say you have the plastic stuff, did you replace or go over your wood, or you didn't have wood to start??

I'm thinking of getting the aluminum (plastic) 'covers' from SAM, pretty good prices, but I'm a bit hesitant on the 'plastic' construction vs. the 'real' metal of legend 5's.

I never had wood, I bought the car used and it was the one option the guy opted not to get (well, save that automatic tranny, thank god)

Do you have a link to these "SAM" pieces? I'm new-ish to Volvos. (Been a Saab guy, now dipping my feet in the dark side, hehe)

http://www.samsteffansson.se/ - Good prices, available from Volvo dealers in Sweden - so assumably good stuff. Swedish Krona(?) seems low, so good deals for US$.

http://legend5.com/ -Dash kits, semi pricey, but real billet aluminum available

http://www.woodtrim.com/ - Dash kits, He seems to always have a sale, so don't feel pressured into buying before such and such a date.

Overall good sites:

www.volvospeed.com - the popular bay 13 that you may have heard of

www.volvotuning.com - Forum and more

www.easternaerospace.com - exaggerated hp claims, but some simple parts are cheaper than ipdusa.com

Hey Ananda,

Eastern Aerospace is here in Atlanta. I'm going to head over and check them out later in the week and see if there is actually anything worth looking into. I've got a nice bird-s*&^ stain on my hood exactly where I think a scoop should go. The bird-s*&^ sat there for two weeks under the sun while parked at the airport and ate through my paint.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

If their scoop looks good, I may go for it.
