trip computer "disc" message on start-up V70-XC70 1998

Occasionally, upon starting the car, the trip computer will display "disc" instead of the temperature. I haven't noticed it happening in any of the other modes other than temperature mode. Sometimes it is displayed for a few minutes and at other times it goes away in a few seconds. Has anyone seen this before?

Re: trip computer "disc" message on start-up V70-XC70 1998

I had the same thing happen to me...."disc" is for disconnected. It either means the dial is going bad or the contacts might just be a little dirty. I would just turn the dial back and forth a few times to get the contacts touching again. If it displays "disc" continuously, then the dial is mostly likely bad.

I messed with the dial this morning when it happened and it fixed it. May have to replace the dial eventually though. Do you know if those switches are still just popped out of the dash from the back? Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure about the switches, but I'm sure you're right that they pop out from the back. Just keep on rotating the dial when you see the "disc" message....it will clean itself up. I haven't seen the "disc" message in a long time.
