Check Engine indicator does not go off after stalled engine S40-V40 2000

I have V40 1.8 manual and I accidentally stalled the engine by releasing the clutch to fast. After I restarted the engine the check engine light was on.
I stopped the car and waited for about 30 min but when I restarted it afterward the light was still on and stayed one until I got home (about 3 km).
Any ideas what the problem might be?

The best thing to do is read the codes and clear them. Any scanner can do this, it doesn't have to be a Volvo dealer. Write down the code and let us know what it is. Probably not very important, like an emmissions problem because the mixture was too rich.

Check Engine indicator does not go off after stalled engine S40-V40 2000

Hi Klaus, on the next day I drove the car about 40 km and on the day after the "Check Engine" indicator was off and stays off since then. Meanwhile I received the OBD2 reader that I ordered and there was a stored code P0335 (Crankshaft position indicator circuit A ... or something like that). Is this a false alarm (caused by the way I stalled the car) or I should check the car in a service ASAP?

More people should have scanners, it saves a lot of headaches. Go ahead and clear the code and see if it comes back. The p0335 (Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction) might have been caused by a loose wire or connection that was pulled by the engine movement when you stalled.

Check your codes again in a couple of days even if the CEL does not light up. And I suggest checking for codes every time you change the oil. There are times when codes have to be stored multiple times before a CEL is turned on. This will give you a heads up for pending problems.

Does your obd reader clear check engine lights? It should. I say clear the code and see if it comes back. I dont think it will. If the car is running fine, and the light stays off, the system threw the code just to be on the safe side. If the light comes back, let us know and maybe we can help from there. Good luck.

Thanks Klaus! I ordered a OBD2 scanner and will check the diagnostic code when i get it next week. I was worried that the warning light means that there is an ongoing problem but it seems that it will stay on until it is cleared with a scanner, no matter if the problem that triggered it is still present or not.
