1998 s70 near stall S70

The other day during a driving rain storm, my s70 came to a near stall.. the rpms, went from normal to 300..this was while hitting the accelerator like no tommorrow.. this happened a few more times. At the time it was raining very hard and had been for a while, hard enough that water could splash into the engine. It has not happened since.

Look under the front of your car and see if the air guide/splash shield is still there. A missing guide can allow water to be splashed onto the alternator or allow the serpentine belt to slip.

It would be quite rare to have enough water to enter the air intake system to degrade system performance. The intake is at the top of the grill opening, and if water splashes up that high, your running engine could be headed for the salvage yard.

i wind guard was added a few months ago.. water was not that deep, but it was possible that it could splash in large quantities through the grill at the time.
