Powering down computer for max performance: Fact or Fiction? 850 1995

Some have posted that they reset their computer every so often for maximum performance. Is there any agreement on this?

ThanX

Yes, but only for about 20 miles. Some cars go by start cycles so there maybe a little more benefit there. Somehow it does not seem worth the 6 or so hours it takes for the ECU to reset.

You can do this quickly by pulling circuit breaker 1 from the second

fuse box (under the hood). Leave it out for a minute and that

should do it. Over time, my engine can feel rough,

like the timing is off. Resetting the ECU causes it to feel

silky smooth for about a day or so. Note that I have a manual

transmission and I think I feel more of the engine tuning since

it is directly coupled to the driveline. An automatic might

isolate this a bit. And yea, the car is faster but not for

very long. Would be a good thing to do if you are at the track

going for a quarter mile run (in fact, I read a car magazine that

recommended this for almost all cars doing quarter mile runs at

their local track).

The ecu holds power long after its pulled from the car. Usually takes about 5 hours before it is actually powered down.

Hey that's curios,

Just had a complete flat battery which died overnight.

After p`lacing a new one I already found thatbthe car felt better but thought it was, subjective or in any case related to cold humid air which gives you a higher air/oxygen density.

So it was the ECU!
