1998 &2000 Timing Belt Change S70

I have 2 S70s: '98 with 139,000 and 2000 w/ 105,000. Have done timing belt change on my son's 850 which appears to be same engine as the '98. I used the Bay 13 instructions.

Are instructions similar for 2000 S70? I don't remember but does the '98 have both hydraulic and mechanical tensioners, and what does the 2000 have? I did not change the tensioners on the 98 and plan to do so this time.

Should I replace anything else besides the tensioners? I replaced both serpentine belts recently. How about the water pumps? How long do they usually last in these cars?

Thanks for your help in advance.

    1998 &2000 Timing Belt Change S70

    I just had it done on my s70 98 non-turbo. 88K

Mechanic who has been in business for 30 years said no need to change water pump rock solid as Klaus said.

He said that sometimes the tensioner is either mechanical or hydraulic. Mine was mechanical.

He did change the roller as Klaus suggested. It was binding a little.

Klaus is one of the best on the boards. Helped me out many times.

    Madness

The 2000 has VVT, variable valve timing, which requires you to rotate the engine to get the marks all lined up, AND, rotate an additional 90 degrees clockwise and then back to TDC to ease the tension on the cams. Otherwise, same as the older cars.
The 2000 does have a mechanical tensioner which must be replaced with a belt change. I would also replace the rollers.

Water pumps typically last 180-250K miles, depending on the kind of antifreeze you use.

Hydraulic tensioners easily last 200K miles, but the rollers need to be inspected and/or replaced.
