I just got mine and used it today - bought it at IPD. I got the heavy duty metal one because my filter was on SOOO tight and it looked sturdier and a tighter fit. First time I changed the oil without the tool I could not get the filter off and had to leave it. Today I changed it again including filter and it was still really hard to get off but it came off. I think you will need it to tighten properly too.

You need a 1/2" drive to go with it.
