Coolant in the driver's floor S80

I'm not an expert mechanic, though I have had to do a lot of research by necessity. At any rate, on a '00 s80 t6 if your heater core worked great last winter and you have only been using A/C this summer - what is most likely the reason there is some coolant coming in the driver's side driver floor area. And would be safe to drive without ruining anything on a 1500 mile trip

Thank you both with those pictures and recommendation, I think we'll be able to save ourselves $400-700.

Checkout Volvospeed.com , Bay13, S80 heater core leak...95% of the time its not the core but the $3.00 O-rings that the hoses use to attach to the core..

Replacing the heater core is not a big deal. Sopping up the antifreeze from the carpet and pad is.
Eventhough the "heat" is turned off, coolant always flows through the core when the engine is on.
Get it fixed, or do it yourself in a couple of hours.

removing the lower driver's side dash pieces S80

I was following the directions to get to the heater core; however, the lower dash trim cover thing doesn't seem to want to budge. (I was able to get the side piece off next to the chair) I've taken both screws out, but I'm not sure which way to pull b/c I've had stuff break on my old volvo if you don't know which way to go.

Then you are suppose to remove the upper trim right below the and around the steering too, but I assume that comes off after you get the lowest piece over the pedal/foot area off.

Any tips or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Remove the 3 screws on the lower panel under the steer wheel..unlock wheel and pull it out to the limit..you will now see the clips holding the upper and lower panels..remove the clips,,BINGO!...

My mom has been out of town, so I just got around to finally having time to fix that leak. Well you can see where it has been leaking, but it took forever to get those clips off.

The problem I'm facing now is getting them back in ( putting the clips that hold the pipes into the heater core). They are in awkward places your hands can't fit, maybe finger tips, but not easily on the upper pipe. The thing is, the lower pipe will not pull to the front of the console like it shows on Volvospeed, but it will go the other way. Also, the setting has to be on cold to move the arms out of the way not hot for this S80 - not sure why, but every time it's on hot it gets back in the way.

Is there any easy way to put those clips back in, I think I have the pipe back in all the way (though I never heard a snap sound), but I can't hardly push the clip in and get it over the pipe lip - there is nothing to guide it over the lip since it sticks up a little more with the new rings. Though it was so hard to remove my hands feel a bit shaky
