Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) Light comes ON and OFF V70-XC70

Guys,

I recently bought V70 T5 2001. I had to change the front disk rotors and the pads. The rear pads were also changed.
After few weeks of driving the Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) light comes ON with a warning message to be checked by the dealer. After swithing the engine off and back on the DSTClight goes OFF. The problem is intermitent.

Any suggestions ? Is is related to the break pad replacement?
Or is it the same as the ABS module problem on the 850 series ?
My other car is 850R 1996 and had the ABS module rebuilt.

Thanks a lot, Stilian

It is not related to the disk/pad replacement. Pretty soon, you will have the ABS light also come on and you will have to have the ABS module repaired. It is the same unit as the 850s had.

      Thanks a lot!
Today I went to my Volvo mechanic and after reading the error code it was saying something like:
"incorrect break pedal pressure sensor ..." or something. The pedal sensor is around the servo block.

We reset the error code and I will start monitoring again.

It is interesting that the ABS light is *not ON* ... for the moment. Only the DSTC comes ON intermittently and goes away if the engine is restarted.

If this fault is related to the "common 850 ABS module saga" it is shame that Volvo didn't fix it.

What involves rebuilding the ABS module? Is is a dry joint ? Or transistor component?

      Regards Stilian

There is indeed a brake pedal pressure sensor mounted on the front of the vacuum booster. Easy to see, try unplugging it and cleaning the contacts. Inspect the wiring looking for chaffing. On my 850T, the sensor got soaked driving through puddles and it took almost a week to dry out, the ABS light stayed on for the duration.

The ABS module has poor solder connections which will crack due to the high heat in the engine compartment. Victor replaces the solder with a better kind that will not crack.

          Thanks Klaus,

Will clean the connector of the pedal pressure sensor and keep monitoring.
Apart of that V70 T5 2001 (the wide body)is really nice car. Can't help myself buying Volvos.

          Regards, Stilian
