What triggers the "Liftgate Open' warning Light on '99 T5? V70-XC70

I have another '99 T5 wagon Q--the orange dash light indicating the liftgate is open came on and stays on. The lift gate is closed, and opens and closes normally. How do I turn it off? I can't find the sensor anywhere!

Open the lift gate and use a screwdriver to close the latch. Two clicks. Then check for the light. If the light has gone off, the liftgate wasn't closed completely. If not, the micro switch is stuck open. Try WD40 up in the latch to free the switch.

The switch is integral with the latch. I had one replaced under the original factory warranty.

My '99 NA is doing the same thing. I think there is a switch in the tailgate that has gone bad. I haven't tried it yet, but one fix is to cut the power to the switch. Maybe someone has a better idea.
