Buying an S40 - what to look for S40-V40 2001

We're adding a second Volvo to the household, going to look at a 2001 S40 turbo with 51k miles on it tonight. One owner, dealer maintained - blue exterior grey interior (my favorite).

Any tips on what to check for in the 2001 S40?

Tina, this just came across another thread:

An S40 site that looks pretty good.

sorry i didn't see this before you looked at the car but if you bought it i can tell you some things to look out for. my brother has a same year s40 turbo and the main issues that he experienced and that i have heard a lot about is fast wearing on the pads. also check for rust even around the plastic trim pieces. the cup holder right in front of the radio isn't just annoying it is also very fragile. and then there is the 2 spark plugs that have the power pack on then so each one powers two plugs which makes a tune up easier but somewhat expensive. finally since its a 4 cylinder it will vibrate a lot just be ready for that .. my brother wasn't. but good luck there quick any awesome for city driving.

Yes we bought this car it is a great car! We've already driven it 400 miles (road trip!) I changed the air filter, cabin filter, oil and oil filter. Pads still have 80% on them but we'll keep an eye. Spark plugs still look good, probably replace next year. Drove the car over highway 17 - winding mountain highway - and it handled very nicely no vibration at all. I'm happy with our purchase!
