Odometer doesNT work purchase? 850 1994

Hello again Bricksters,

I have found what I beleive is a VERY good deal. Its a 94 850 Tubro, only problem is the odometer doesnt work and stopped at 110,000. I have looked in the maintence records and everything is documented up to this point of milage the date last serviced in the book was Volvo of Tampa at 109,000 in August of 2000. Does the computer hold the milage info also??? Also what would cause the odo to just stop, or most likely has it been played with? I want to take it to my Volvo specialist but dont want to waste the money if you guys tell me otherwise..

Thanks again

Paul

Re: Odometer doesNT work purchase? 850 1994

Be careful, alot of 850's have odometers that stop. We had our odo replaced and then traded the car recently. The dealership calls us and tells us they took the car across the street to the Volvo dealership where we bought the car to have some work done and found out that the odometer had been repaced by a dealer. We ended up having to trade back with them and now our title has "unknown mileage" on it. There is nothing wrong with our car so we will keep it and we found out we like the Volvo better than the car we had traded for.

If you know the owner, and can trust him/her, then go for it. Just be aware that it is what car salesman refer to as a TMU, true mileage unknow which greatly hurts its value. That is a good bargaining point for you, just be aware of it when you go to re-sell the car.
