1998 V70 t5 V70-XC70

Looking at a 1998 V70 T5 wagon with about 120K on her for about 6 grand, original owner for the last ten years and was regularly serviced at local volvo dealer, what I would like to know is what is the longevity of the turbo on this car and or the year model itself any known defects (a friend has a 1998 V70 with 180K no turbo though), I currently have a 1994 940T wagon which I replaced the turbo six years ago, my current car is having a bevy of costly issues and I am looking to upgrade by a few years, like the old style V70 better than the new.

Thanks
Moleses

The turbos last longer than the 940T, much longer - about 250-300K. That is a lot of money for a T5 with 180K. Of course, it depends on the region you live in. Around here it is $4000-5000, if the AC evaporator has already been replaced. Otherwise a lot cheaper.

In 2 years of normal driving, the car will be over 200K and worthless in the open market.

Then go for it! If it needs a new ETM, replacement from Canada is $500, Victor does ABS module for $150. Do look at the ATF fluid, the 5speed auto is a little delicate.

Klaus - I've read up on the ETM's. That angle sensor replacement from Canada does look great, but I'm pretty sure 98's were still throttle by cable. My 99 on the other hand...ugh.

Quite correct, my boo boo. Those later 1998s did have some changes, but I forgot what they were: tensioner, Tbelt, coils?
