1998 V70R - Check engine light is on. Fault code is "Secondary air injection system malfunction" What do I need to fix? Car seems to drive fine.

    Hi Bugs. The secondary system is the fresh air pump that's buried beneath the battery. When our CEL went on, it was simply a plumbing problem related to the pump. Some vacuum lines needing new elbows and such. However I've seen this occur when the air pump gets water in it. This is not common out here in the desert, but can happen. Much more likely in wet areas and harsh winter environs. The pump may actually be stuck due to corrosion from water puddling in the pump. I understand later models had better drainage to solve the issue.
