odometer not working 850

Hi all, replaced my dodgy ignition switch and now the odometer does not work. Every thing else is fine. Anyone have any clues ? Also, thinking of replacing the 850 with a 2001 v70 light pressure turbo. Any opinions gratefully accepted. Thanks David

You don't have to remove the entire dash to take out the instrument cluster:

Try to park your car in the sun this time of year. A warm dash makes it easier to bend. If you have a turbo, disconnect the vacuum line close to the hood release handle. If you have a trip computer, there is an additional plug for it near the rear of the cluster.
Order both odo gears and replace both of them at the same time.

As to buying an 01 V70 GLT, why not? The light pressure turbo will give you about 200bhp and the mpg is still pretty good.

P2 is the new body style introduced in 2001, so that makes it a first year wagon. I has a 5 speed tranny and more electronics, of course. The battery was moved to the trunk area, IIRC. There are 3 different fuse locations and some of the relays have been put back under the dash.
You can reset the service reminder and you will need a scanner to get the diagnostic codes. The cabin blower stays on after engine shutdown if the AC was on, it helps dry the evaporator. There is a cabin filter which needs to replaced annually.
If you flush the tranny, use mobile 1 3309 fluid. Flushing the PS fluid with tranny fluid is a no-no, use synthetic fluid.
The P2 cars use a different oil filter than the old standby - Mann.

I suggest driving it for an hour under different conditions and see what you think. Get service records, of course.

My guess is that while you were working on the switch, you hit the odometer reset button a little too hard or at a funny angle and broke the little gear. This happens to them all eventually and it's about a two hour job to take the dash apart, pull the gauge cluster out, take it apart, replace the gear and put it all back together. You see pictures of cars on ebay where the dash is all screwed up.......that's because someone was trying to do this job and didn't know about the two screws near the front underside in the glovebox area you have to remove in order to get the dash off. If you attempt, make sure the battery is disconnected and make sure the passenger air bag is hooked up again before you try to start the car again. You can the gear at FCP groton or on ebay. Also, IPD sells this nylon pry tool that is great for prying up the speaker grills and prying out the vents and the plastic pieces on the sides of the dash. The screws that hold the dash on are on theinside tops of the vents, the sides of the dash, a couple under the gauges, and the glove box and 4 10mm bolts inside the glove box opening that hold the airbag stuff in place. The plastic piece under the windshield is also very brittle...be careful sliding the dash off, or reinstalling.

Wait for more responses.... I'm not 100% sure the switch has absolutely nothing to do with the odometer, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't.
