what is the timing belt change interval ? V70-XC70 2004

When is a good time to change the timing belt on our 2004 V70 2.5T ? Different manuals have different recommendations for how often to change the timing belt. Haynes says 80k miles, Owners Manual says 120k. For the S80, the same OM says 105K. Aren't they using the same motor (i.e. 2.5l turbocharged 5 cylinder ) ?

Failure to get it right could lead to much grief for the mechanic.

Thanks

Greg

Last I heard was 105K, but I don't have any docs for the NEW cars. Tbelt AND tensioner.

Rule of thumb I've had drilled into me is 5 years/70k miles, along with tensioner, pulley, and water pump every other belt change.

This advice is admittedly conservative, but failure of a timing belt is so catastrophic (read: REPLACE ENGINE) that it makes sense.

      cheers

You are used to pre 1999 cars. 1999 and on are 105K for belt and tensioners, except for early 1999s which had tension failures at 85K.
The 105K came about because of California rules...
