Shocks S40-V40 2000

Hi Guys
I need to change the shock absorbers font and rear on my daughter's 2000 S 40
but I dont want to pay dealer's replacement prices. Does anybody Know who makes the original equipment? And what brand/model is a good equivalent substitute to the original?
Tks

Try fcpgroton.com and IPD. You might need to call them because groton's website seemed like it was missing a lot of parts last time I visited that I know they carried before.

I believe the OEM shocks are Boge or Sachs (same company makes both). They are OEM on most Volvo models.

For your daughter, don't go with Bilstein or Koni. These are performance shocks and I don't think she will care for the stiffer ride.

I'd stay away from Monro's as well.

I've heard good things about KYBs but have never used them, myself.

What mileage are the shocks at? My originals are at 67,000mi and ride really good. I'd like to know what to expect.

Tks Mormit. Mileage is 65,000,but we live in the New York metro area, which is well known for the "great" roads we have... Pothole city I should say!

If your daughter's car nose dives a little at stop signs, then it needs shocks. If it rattles, then it just needs shock mounts. NYC is not kind.

Agreed with Klaus's advice. A rattle should be a sign of a bad mount or other suspension problem.

Shocks are bad when there is too much movement. The quick and dirty test I learned long ago was to bounce one corner at a time and let off at the top of a bounce. The car should stop bouncing almost immediately. Maybe this is more applicable the the early 70s cars I started driving on but if you are hearing knocking or squeaking sounds when you bounce the corners it may be other components than shocks.

BTW: St Louis streets are not kind to shocks either.
