Bob,
The spark plug change is very straight forward. Remove the 6 torx bolts that holds the plastic cover on and this exposes everything. I have a turbo and had to loosen the piping to get at some of the bolts, but did not have to remove it. Each coil pack is held in place with a bolt that will need to be removed. You will notice that the wire covers may be pretty deteriorated from the heat exposure and will be crumbling apart. I used compressed air at this point to remove all the little pieces to keep them from getting down the spark plug holes. Mine came out easily, but I have heard others had difficulty. Be careful on reinstallation to not cross thread, and you only need to torque to about 15-18 foot pounds. DO NOT OVER TORQUE!!! There is no distributor, rotor or cap. Move the wiring around for the coils carefully to prevent damage.
My 01 V70 T5 has just over 90K miles and I have yet to clean the throttle body or anything else. Only belt and spark plug changes for me so far, but I think a fair amount depends on the condition of the engine. I've always run synthetic oil in mine and I have yet to notice any deposits on anything. I wish I could give better advice on cleaning, perhaps other forum members may be able to give better advice than I can. I have heard Klaus mention to check for pressure at the dipstick hole while the engine is running, and this is a good indicator of the condition of the PVC system and if it needs cleaning. Not sure how to check for the mass sensor or throttle body.
