Colder cabin heater and engine temp stays below 50% on guage 850 1996

Greetings:

My '96 850 (new to me, and I love it) seems like the cabin heater does not warm up as fast as I would expect. I've noticed also that the engine temp guage does not get above 30% or so whereas previous vehicles for me have alsways had the engine temp guage at 50% when the car is warmed up.

Should I drain coolant? IS this simple?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Get a new OEM thermostat, and two torx bolts. The T40 bolts are a real pain, try not to strip them, push down hard while you are trying to bust them loose.

Your MUST drain about 1 quart of fluid from the engine block. If you spill antifreeze on the alternator it will short things out and you will need to buy another one. I learned the hard way.

When you put the hose back on, make sure the hose is in exactly the same place as before, and the hose clamp, and do not overtighten.

    yep.
your thermostat is likely failed and is open. this causes the engine to warm up pretty slow and in some cases it never gets up to operating temp. check the link for info and a write-up on how to replace it.

    Good luck!

It sounds like you need a new thermostat.
