front brake click noise 850 1995

I recently acquired a 1995 850. When I apply the brakes the fronts make a sudden click, one right after the other. The passanger side is when applied moderately and the drivers side takes a bit more pressure usually. Anybody got any idea what might cause this before I go out in the cold morning air and start pulling every thing apart?

Thanks all for your anticipated cooperation,

Mitch

PS- The dashboard rattles too. The side screws inside the vent area are in place, but at the windshield it appears to be loose. Are there screws possibly missing if I take it all apart? Does it snap in at the firewall? Any info before I dig into that would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks again

Check the caliper mounting bolts too. There are four short 10mm bolts that hold the dash in place to the frame around the glove box. These may be missing from some previous work. Remove the glove box to check. You don't have to take the door off.

Thanks, they must be missing. The whole dash, as it turns out, is not connected except in the side vents. I got into it some yesterday.

Thanks again,
Mitch

There are a couple of write ups on Volvospeed about the dash board rattles. Read them all twice. The "bolts" that hold on the dash are plastic so they cannot be torqued down hard. The cover under the windshield wipers covers up the 4 bolts.

Your brakes sound like the spring clips that hold the inside pad on to the brake piston are loose. Tighten them with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Thanks Klaus,

I'll investigate both of those after lunch and let you know.
