Anyone have comments or warnings on recent 2WD V70s? V70-XC70 2006

Does anyone have experience, warnings, or recommendations on the recent-model V70 front wheel drive (not the brand new 2009 body, the previous one)? Any real expensive weak points? A 2006 light turbo Volvo-certified is for sale at the nearby dealer. My wife drove it and liked the visibility and the classic comfortable Volvo seats. It has 60,000 miles and they want $16,500. Unfortunately it has auto transmission. Thanks for advice.
(P.S. I've looked for manual transmission V70s but they are rare in USA and totally non-existent around here.)

Nothing wrong with fwd V70s with the 5 cyl engine. In fact, they run great. Ask if there is any maint history, and/or get the dealer inspection checklist. The timing belt isn't until 105K miles, but it is probably time for new spark plugs.
At that price, the tires better be in good shape :)

Thanks for hints. My wife asked about the maintenance history and they said because of privacy issues, they could not show her the records. Typical dealer doublespeak. They gave her the brochure on the certified program and presumably they check the thing thoroughly. The KBB retail price shows as $19,500, but with the economic situation, I bet few cars are selling that those prices any more. Some friends in the chemical supplies industry tell me that around here (Mississippi), car sales have plummeted and repair shops are way down on business too.

There is no legal "privacy" in a car dealership. I have been shown records of used cars that were serviced, granted I was not interested in the owner's name or the price paid. I just asked if there were any repetitive problems and any "major" problems. The dealer can tell you what the problems were and how often serviced without showing you the actual computer screen.

The certified program already has the insurance policy builtin and is good until 100K miles. A pretty good deal. Ask if it has always been maintained there or should you get a Carfax. Tell them to do the 60K service as part of the deal. And don't forget to smile :)

          60,000 mile service - excellent suggestion!! V70-XC70 2006

          Thank you, an excellent suggestion.

I have read that that the impending 60,000 mile service (or Service II for BMW or similar for Mercedes) is why one sees so many recent-vintage cars at dealerships. The owners decided they did not want to pay for the service and traded it in instead. Is that really how people think?

No. That is due to the leases they sign - 5 years/60Kmiles. Or with BMW and Audi, 50K is when the "free" service expires, so they trade it in to continue to get "free" service.

These days, 60K service is just an oil change and belt inspection, possible spark plugs, oil hinges, and other little things.
