ABS light and P1550 code S80

hello,
I have an 99' S80 and the abs warning light has been goin in intermittently for a month. yesterday the check engine light came and I pulled a P1550 code. From what I gather so far, this is a speed sensor issue to the transmission, and I suspect I have a faulty sensor on one of the wheels. What I am wondering is whether the check engine fault will throw the transmission into "limp" mode as I need to drive the car for another couple of days before I can get it into the shop. I don't think clearing the fault code resets the trip to limp mode, if that indeed will occur. Any thoughts on how this works?
Thanks

Your abs module needs to be repaired. The speed signal goes through the abs module, causing the CEL to light up. Do not buy an expensive new abs module, get yours repaired. Vic does a good job: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/

thanks for the quick reply. Any idea whether or not I will get stuck in "limp mode" if I keep driving it for a few days?

You should be alright. You can double check with Victor on Monday. If you clear the 1550 code, that will be just fine also. Read what Victor has to say on his web site.

as an FYI, I cleared the P1550 code and drove approx 40 miles without any new abs or cel warnings. by the way, my local dealer quoted me $1200 to replace the abs...

That's not a dealer, that's a $ealer with kids in college and a house in the Bahamas!

If you remove the abs module yourself with Victor's instructions, it will cost about $150. Of course, you will be without a speedometer for the time that the abs module is out of the engine bay, but that is preferable to being out $1200.

Just as an update for reference, I was able to swap out my abs module for a rebuilt one in approx. 45min. hardest part was getting the air filter box out of the way. I found a local rebuilder who charged $100 for a rebuilt abs that allowed me to install theirs and then send mine back to them. I told my wife she owed me $1000 (I gave her a discount)....
