Coil Packs V70-XC70

Two weeks ago my 2002 XC70 started mis-firing and found the #2 cylinder not to be firing. Change the $65 coil pack and the problem went away.... Now 2 weeks later the #4 cylinder is mis-firing, another $65 and the problem goes away...

Does anyone know what is going on here? Are these coil packs known to start failing like this? The car has 125,000 miles on it? Once they start going is it recomended to change all? $300 worth of coils!! Does the signal to the coil pack come from the ECM? Could something be wrong with the signal?
Thanks
Kevin

that's typical of ANY coil on plug car. they are all the same age. seen it alot on volvos, bmws and benzs. heard from a 3 car ford owner, the same thing. 1 thing i found that ages coils quickly is excessive gap on the spark plugs due to wear.60k is about as long as i let them go. any further and you will be putting plugs, coils and on some benzs, wires also. use the right plugs-no bosch platinums. oe type only. i've fixed more tuneups by installing the plats the owner put in 2-3k ago into a trash can. good luck, chuck.

When Volvo went to coil overs, they forgot to leave room to dissipate the heat. #3 usually goes first, then #4 and #2.

That doesn't seem that unusual at that mileage. Part of the problem is you're paying too much for them - readily available for $40 to $45. Click on the eEuroparts.com ad link.
