Which seals should I have changed during a Timing Belt change? V70-XC70 1998

Hey All,

Have the V70 going in for Timing Belt next week...she also has an oil leak that was located by the last garage...so I was wondering if there are any seals that might be exposed during the timing belt service process that I should enquire about having changed out.

I think I had rear main and few others done on my 740 years ago during it's timing change....

thanks all!
Mike

You will be closer to the front engine and crank seals but none of them will be wide open. It will be neccesary to pull the cam and crank gears out of the way to get to the seals. I very, very rarely run into leaking crank or cam seals while doing timing belt changes and because of the nature of the white engines they are not the snap to do that the red engines are. What I have seen more than anything else is leaking oil fill cap gaskets that were misdiagnosed as leaking front cam seals. The fill cap gasket will leak, fill the nooks and crannies on the top of the head with oil to the point that it leaks out behind the exhaust cam gear and down the front of the head/block thus giving the appearance of a leaking cam seal.
