Fan Relay V70-XC70 2000

I wrote a couple weeks ago about my XC running hot with the ac on. I was told to check and see if the fan was coming on when the ac turned on. Obviously I can only check that while it is sitting in my driveway, and it did come on with the ac. My new question is is it possitble that it may not always be coming on such as when I am actually driving down the road??

Thanks,

Ken

    Fan Relay V70-XC70 2000

    Ken,
The engine fan should engage when the compressor turns on or the engine temp gets too warm. The fan may not come on at highway speed, but it will be on at around town (30mph) speed.
You might want to unplug the engine coolant temp sensor, with the engine turned off so you don't get a check engine light, and check the resistance with a multimeter. At 68F you should get a resistance of 2800 Ohms, at 104F - 1200 Ohms, at 212F - 160 Ohms. If your values are not close, it will be time to get a new ECT.
