AC, what else? 850

Anyone know where the high side connection is on my 94 turbo? I have ALL the same
problems as most. Is the radiator fan suppose to kick on when ac is turn on?
Low side gauge reading is in the red until it kicks on then it goes down to 60 or 70 on 90 degree day. It will sometimes get ice cold(going down the highway) then suddenly stop working. It usually won't do well at a light.

'96 850 Turbo, 130,000 miles, I have the exact same problems you describe. 20 degree temperature differential is fine on an 80F day but doesn't cut it in the 100F+ Georgia sun. Had my wife take the car to a shop and they found no problem. Let me know if you have any luck.

The gap in the AC clutch is too wide. Search for AC problems to find fixes.

Today it was 94F here and my 850 GLT AC was coming on and it was immediatly cutting off. I could hear good loud Click from relay and compressor was going on and off.

Found pressure was 70 which was too high. Released some gas and it is at 50 now. I will see it tomorrow how it behaves. I could not remember that I charged the AC so much high. May be it is because of summer temperature.

Hope this helps.

There is no high side connection. If you are reading 60 to 70 psi with the compressor running normally it is either way overcharged or something is blocked. Even on a 90° day it should be in the mid 30 psi range with the compressor running. Without the compressor running it is normal for the pressure to be way into the red on the auto parts store recharge kits.

Yes, the fan should turn on with the A/C compressor or shortly thereafter (With the ECC there is a few seconds of delay). If it doesn't check the fan relay, they crap out with alarming regularity.

The part where it will sometimes get ice cold has me scratching my ever balding head. At 60 to 70 psi the best you could hope for is about 65° air coming out of the vents. I wonder if your A/C clutch is slipping?
