I bought a 1994 850 non turbo that needs a motor,I have the opportunity to buy a totaled 1998 850 non turbo with 40,000 miles on it.I was told that this motor will work in my car if I also change the harness and ECM.

Questions for the B.B.
Is that as easy as it sounds?
I am prepared to do a motor change,but how much harness are they talking about?
Just the engine harness?
Does anyone know what else I would need to change?
I have a lot of hands on experience with RWD,but very little experience with FWD.

Going from a 2.3 to a 2.4L engine should not require a harness change, but just swapping the ECU module. There are no mechanical changes that I can think of.

I suggest also swapping the tranny and it's TCU, the 1998 has a better tranny.

Changing the engine wiring is a major job. You would also loose the onboard OBD capability.

Does the 98 still use a throttle cable?I know that the electronic throttle controls have had problems.I keep hearing of people trying to get volvo recall repay for the pricey repair.

1999 is the first year for electronic throttle. You are good to go.

Depending on how badly the car is wrecked, could you just unbolt the subframe and swap the entire drivetrain? Struts included? LOL

99 whas when they changed to the wireless throttle. Transmission is better, but you may need to modify the speed sensor pick up.
