clanking noise V70-XC70 2000

Hello again everybody, My wife just informed me of a clanking sound coming from our XC. I took it for a short test drive to here it. I heard the sound but it is getting dark and it is snowing so I will take a look in the am. It is defineately a speed related issue. The faster you go the faster the clanking goes. It is a metal on metal sound, almost like a cowbell sound. So I have no clue right now without looking and I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you in advance.

Check the heat shield just above the driveshaft, they have a tendancy to come loose and touch the shaft. Look from the driver's side, but only when the exhaust is cold!

You didn't mention the frequency, but .... V70-XC70 2000

I know you said it's speed related, but you didn't say how fast. Is its frequency in sync with tire/wheel rotation? faster than that?

It could be something caught in your wheel that's hitting the backing plate or other suspension piece (thus the "cowbell" sound). Or if it's faster, perhaps on a driveshaft?
