Rebuilt rear wiper motors ? V70-XC70 1998

$150 seems pretty pricey for a friggin' tailgate wiper motor. Anywhere out there that rebuilds them ? At these prices, I can buy a lot of Windex and paper towels.......

Or a junk yard. Normal cause for the rear wiper to burn itself out is the shaft that goes through the tailgate gets corroded with salt and other dirt. Simply replacing the motor will not guarantee results.
Or, have an electrical shop rebuild yours?

Well, we bridged across a burned out lead on the top of the motor.....and the motor works again.......but now it parks in the middle of the sweep, instead of at the beginning. In other words, the arm, at rest, sticks straight up at 12:00 position.

Distracting, but I'll take it over $150 for a wiper motor.

I suppose it's possible an internal part that regulates the park position burned out......and the thing doesn't appear to want to be opened up, even by somebody rebuilding, if they could be found.

Tell you one thing, that salt and other crap sure ate up the pivot pin. Had to clean it with a wire wheel just to get it semi-smooth again. All greased up now, though, and working great.

TIP: If your rear wiper is slowing down, you'd be well off to go ahead and pull that arm and motor out. The linkage is just held inside the mounting arm wiht a C-pin. Back it out, clean it up and grease it, and stick it back in. Easy work, and well worth it.

Can you not just detatch the wiper blade, put it in the normal parking position, and tighten it back up?

No; instead of having one 180-degree sweep (left to right,or whichever way it was, and then return), it now rests in the center; moves 90 degrees left (I think); then all the way to the other side; then back to center.

It has to do with the park position, not the arm position. It's no longer parking at the end of a 180-degree sweep. It parks in the middle of a 180-degree sweep, and starts by going one way 90 degrees, then all the way back the other way 180 degrees from there. Whenever you stop it, it stops halfway thru the sweep (pointing straight up). It still covers the whole rear glass. If I moved the arm, it would go off the glass (as it did at first !).

When you bench tested the motor, the park pos sensor must have changed. How to put it back down is beyond me...

The left and right sweep are still OK, so it knows its limits... You may have to hot wire the motor to get it to run and unplug it where you want it to park.

            I am in the dark,
So, what else is new :)
