considering XC90

I am in the market for a new volvo. Have owned a '92 745T and now own a '98 v70 AWD. Happy with both, but am now in the market for a new one. I was looking at another v70 or xc70 (2003-2005 model years), bu a 2004 xc90 with 55K miles is available in my area for what seems like a good price of $16,900 from a private party. It is a 5-cylinder model, seating for 7. I have never considered one of these, but they do look nice. Any thoughts? Trouble spots? (The owners just had the gearbox or something to do with the awd system replaced by the dealer in anticipation of selling it)Things to consider? Will I still be able to do my own brakes, etc?

The mileage we get on our '98 v70 awd is less than spectacular: 17-22 in general. I don't imagine a 2.5L turbo XC90 would do too much worse.

The Consumer Reports surveys notes that this model and year are a very poor choice. If you want to spend 16K on a used Volvo there are good choices to make. The XC-90 has never made the grade.

You should be getting 20/28mpg in your 1998, that is what I get. Sounds like a vacuum line leak.
The SUVs get slightly worse mileage.

    The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
