We are looking at buying a 2002 or a 2004 XC 70. I noticed that the '02 has a 2.4T engine, while the '04 has a 2.5T engine. Is there a substantial difference between the performance, reliability, mileage, etc. between the two engines? Is one preferable to the other? Also, is there a difference between the AWD systems on these two cars, and if so, is one system preferable to the other?

Note that the old bevel gear problems DOES NOT occur on the 2002 and later. The 1998 - 2000 models (and Volvo told me the early 2001 models) have the bevel gear problems (though I have spoken with mechanics who have seen 98--01's go 200,000 miles with no problems - obviously they took care of them).

Get the 2004. The running gear is more reliable, as are some other electronics.
