Belt tensioner S80 1999

The auxiliary belt(serpentine) tensioner on my s80 does not have the common bolt head to fit a regular type tension release tool.

It has a recessed 'Torx' type female socket and I believe the Volvo tension release tool is Part No. 999 7109. Does any of the experts know what this tool looks like and can I make one up. This particular part is available but at a PRICE.

Thanks

Mort

Mort, I made a tool from a T60 wrench with a 1/2" drive end. Since the length is a critical dimension, I had to grind off the tool(some from each end) until it was only 2.08" long and then shim down the 1/2" drive end of it to 3/8" with sheet metal so that I could get my 3/8" swivel end wrench plugged into the torx wrench. If you find a short T60 with a 3/8 drive end, life will be simpler. The overall length of my wrench with the socket handle at 90 degrees is 2.66". Sorry metric friends.

Thanks for the info. Larry,
Could you possibly e-mail me a picture of the T60 wrench you had fabricated.

Mort,
Rather than go off the board, let me suggest you check the SK Hand Tools online catalog for T60 bits. http://www.skhandtool.com/Default.aspx?fusemode=10&pid=45327

You will find a T60 bit with a 1/2" socket drive end. This is not the tool I used. I found a one piece equivalent in a local store, but you got the idea now. Happy shopping.
I needed to fit the 3/8" handle to keep the overall length down because of the tight clearance.

Larry, It appears that the T60 size is too big. The closest size that almost fits the torx recess on the aux belt tensioner on my car is a T25. Are we both on the same page. Mort
