Check Engine Code 0422 V70-XC70 2001

we have just 80,000 on as well, running just fine, good mileage..the check engine light is intermittant... since posting someone at the auto parts store told me that it may just de a small piece of carbon blocking the flow over the sensor causing the code...

If you think there is a carbon build up, just take the engine up to 6,000 rpm in 2nd gear - use an interstate highway, please - and try blowing it off!
Either that or get a new O2 sensor anyway.

code 0422 is catalytic conv under threshold code. I have a 2000 V70 XC SE with 80k miles and for the past few months-the same code pops up. I have a the code scanner to re-set the code. I took the car to a Indy volvo shop near me and was told that it needs a new cat within the next 5000k miles. Iv read here and there that that code would actually require the o2 sensor changed first-and see if that takes care of it. Fact is-car runs perfect-always has-getting 26 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg around town-and have to think about what is best to do myself on this. Good luck-Happy New Year
