fuel sending unit replacement 850

i removed my fuel sending unit and found it was a long al tube similar to what others have posted here. the question i have is, did they replace the style of this unit with the ones that are available at say fc groton and other online suppliers. those units don't resemble this one at all.

I also wondered the same thing and have no answer.

If you had faulty readings from that sending unit it may be because of contaminates that may have gotten into your tank. I took mine apart, checked the resistance with a volt meter at various levels and found that everything appeared to be OK. I sprayed it with brake cleaner and washed it with gasoline and put it back in the tank. Still works.

The top black rubber part pulls off. I just bent the aluminum indentions out with a very small screwdriver, and used the same screwdriver to push them back in again when putting it back together.

Others have had success just by letting the unit dry and putting it back in the car.

i saw the black rubber grommet and can slide that off. so after that i straighten the notches and pull the al tube down.. does the whole assembly that's in the center of that stay together or do i need to worry about parts coming off. i assume its similar to the mb ones which stays together as an unit and the tube is really just to keep foreign stuff from hitting the float. is this correct?

by now you have it all apart and nothing fell off except the centering aluminum piece on the bottom, which is no big deal.

I suspect a slight amount of gum buildup on the plastic slider is all that is the problem. Just clean it with a lint free cloth and put it back together. It should work again.
