Is the turbo gone? 850 1995

Hi all! I have a turbo wagon with 175,000 miles and just recently I have noticed a reduction in power. The turbo gauge only reaches the white and there is no longer any whine although everything else seems to run fine. No smoke, spraying oil, weird sounds, just reduced power and the gauge not going past the white. any help on what I should be looking for? Could it be something other than the actual turbo unit? Thanks for your help

When the turbo goes, you will definitely notice the problem: lots of smoke and oil usage. To say nothing of the noise!

Your problem is loss of vacuum. Either a hose is cracked, or fell off. If the gauge does not get to the white, check everything under the hood and the hose by the hood release handle in the footwell.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

i had this problem one day. It was just me who didnt reconnect the vastegate solenoid valve. It is located beside the lower part of the air filter. 3 little hoses are connected to it. If it is disconnected, the valve is stuck open, preventing the boost to build.

      good luck

If the turbo hoses are old, they do tear and leak. First check all hoses, even the little ones.

Thanks for your help, I think I found the problem. The large plastic intercooler hose is crunched and split from oil and age. Just ordered from FCP groton. Hopefully that should do it. Thanks again!
