Cabin air flow question S70 1999

When the windows are up, and the outside air vent is open, is there a designed path for the air to exit the cabin, or is it just leakage?
I'm one of the dinosaurs who smokes in the car, and am deaf enough without the amphoric resonance from a partially open window; I'm thinking of adding a couple of 12V biscuit fans toward the rear of the cabin to improve venting, if I can figure out where to put them most efficiently. Suggestions are welcome.
There are several months of the year when improved airflow would make it unnecessary to run the a/c, so it's worth some effort even if I quit smoking...
TIA

I would be tempted to put a small but powerful fan in the pass-through hole in the rear seat and remove about 2 feet of the trunk seal a the bottom of the trunk lid. If water did not come in, this would be OK.

Or, you could remove the rear license plate, add an exhaust fan and then re-mount the plate about an inch from the body. Open the pass-through to allow air to be sucked from the interior.

If you were careful, these modifications could be reversed if they did not work.

Believe it is a flow through system, exiting to the rear. Might try running the fan on a low speed setting to help the flow.

Any idea where it exits, and whether it exits into a wheel well, through the trunk, or elsewhere? I'd like to install the auxiliary fan(s) out of sight if possible, and don't mind a little non-structural sheetmetal cutting if necessary. I always have the OEM dashboard fan set on automatic, so it's always running.

It does flow through the back, just behind the rear wheels. Looking up from the ground behind the wrap around part of the rear bumper will let you see the bottom of the vent. Both sides. Inside access is through the inside rear quarter panels.
I also smoke, much to the chagrin of my passengers. But, I found that having the driver's window open 1/2 inch and smoking left handed, keeps the cabin clear. The outside air vent MUST be open on the dash and the fan on auto or greater than 1.
The only problem with my clean air solution: Winter, when the rest of the passenger cabin freezes. Cold air is drawn through the door seals, door handle, or any other "opening". So there is 10 minutes of invigorating air followed by heat when the window is finally closed.
I am afraid that having exhaust fans will not solve your problem. What you need is more air coming into the cabin. So turn the fan to high when you smoke and crack the window. And close the vent by your left hand.

Please answer, we need to know if the advice is good or bad. The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

Thanks, Klaus. When the outside temp gets down below 95 or so, I'll take a look-see and try to figure out where I could splice in home-made ducting for biscuit or other 12V fans.
I've tried about every combination of windows and vents, but any open window at higher speed gives my ears hell if there's enough opening to help with the smoke venting ("artillery ears" from army service, plus subsequent chainsaw and handgun/shotgun/rifle play).
I don't get on this site as often as before, otherwise I'd have read your reply and thanked you sooner. I always learn something from your posts, even if they aren't related to current problems with my car
