One of our Volvos is a 1995 850 Turbo. It has the SC-811 Premium Stereo in it (cassette only). I want to put in a CD/Cassette unit. The sellers I am finding list both the SC-815 or the SC-816 as fitting the 850. What is the difference between the 815 and the 816, and will either work in our 1995 850? Are all the 850 years 1992 to 1997 interchangeable?

As Klaus said, they are interchangeable. I have an SC-816 from a '98 V70 in my '95 854.

The difference is the finish, the look. the SC-815 is black, matching the interior of your 850. The 816 is painted a metallic gray, matching the later S/V70s. Also, the SC-816 has "ASC" to automatically adjust the volume accoding to the car's speed. It won't work in your 850.

Thanks, you just answered my question to Klaus. Funny, I wrote the question to Klaus, clicked on submit, and at that same instant your reply appeared. Some strange Volvo vortex I guess.

My 816 is black and the ASC works! But I did this a couple of years back through the dealer exchange program. Cost me a couple of hundred dollars, but I wanted the unit to look like it came with the car. The 6cd changer in the trunk also works.
Make sure you get a valid theft code with your "new" unit.

Do you know what the difference is between the SC-815 and -816? From most of the pics I see on Ebay, it appears that the -815 is a true black (like my 850) and the -816 is more of a charcoal/grey like in our XC70.
