1999 S80 1999

Hello,
Been reading about the throttle body electrics problems with the S80s. I'm curious, is this a one-time problem/fix or is it recurring every 50k or whatever miles?
Thanks
Aaron

1999 S80 Throttle Body problems S80 1999

Hi Aaron, I had my etm go bad at about 98,000 miles. The volvo dealer in charlotte down loaded a software patch and it has been fine so far with 124k. Volvo has agreed to cover you on the parts and labor for 10 years and or 200k. so you are covered for a while. Inspite of all the problems you hear here these cars are not as bad "in general" as the mad people here. BTW, a buddy of mine just had his acura trans go out, 2 year old car.

Regards,
Lane

Great, thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear your opinion because I love my S80, it will sure put out the HP. I'm used to a 760 turbo and there is no comparison.

I just replaced the timing belt and water pump today, not easy, about 6 1/2 hours and I had an experienced Volvo guy at my side to give me pointers (93,000 miles). The pump was Aisin, apparently not original, so it must've been replaced before. But the belt showed signs of aging and must have been original. I replaced the pump with the OEM pump (some German name?). The thermostat housing showed signs of leaking so I put a new gasket in there -- They don't stock Volvo parts in this neck of the woods, so I couldn't replace the thermostat, but it was in good shape and it was genuine Volvo. At least that's easier to replace if it fails later on.

Aaron
