deep water = check engine light 850 1996

I got caught in a flash flood today and had to drive through some water (i'd guess 6-8 inches). afterwards, the check the engine light started to flash, and the car felt like it was misfiring. then, the check engine light went solid, and the car started to feel better. I quickly pulled over and parked (i was within walking distance of my house). The car starts back up fine, the idle is a little rough, and the check engine light is on. What's the diagnosis? Should I just let the car sit and dry out or should I run it? Thanks.

I'd check the plugs to see if water somehow splashed into the plug wells although I wouldn't think ~6" of water would do it. Otherwise, letting it sit awhile in the summer heat will probably cure it. If you can read/reset the CEL I'd do it and see if it returns. If some water did get into a plug well, it would cause a misfire that would turn on the CEL. If you have no OBD-II reader, Autozone will read/reset it for you generally free
