CD Changer 850 1996

Group:
I have a trunk-mounted CD changer, bought from an 850 owner, and it has worked fine for several years. Now however it gives an error code of E-02 when I push the changer button. There is a cartidge with six CDs plugged in.

The book says that after a power "outage" just push the CD button to reset the code. When I do that, it says "no CD".

The power outage occurred when the gas cap was left loose by a NJ gas attendent.
I cleared that code by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. This was not the first time that the battery was disconnected.

The changer fuse is OK. The single CD player in the Volvo OEM radio works OK.

How do I revive the changer?

I got the "E-02" message the other day. Seems to happen every once in awhile to my unit after it or the car takes a sizable "hit". The changer gets confused and leaves one disc in the player. Once I work the disc out and put it back into the cartridge I'm back in business.

Can't remember all the error codes offhand- but believe your head unit and changer aren't communicating. Check your line from th HU to changer.

If your changer ejects the cartridge- it's getting power.

If connections are all good- my guess is your unit has gone to cd changer heaven.

If there is power to the unit, you should be able to eject the cartridge even if the radio is off. Then turn the radio on and put the cartridge back in. The radio memory sounds a litle off.

Klaus:
There is power and I can eject the cartridge.
I have tried a second loaded cartridge as well.
Radio was reset after the battery was reconnected and it works fine.
All I get is E-02 message when I push the CHGR button.
Actually it is in an S90, but it came from an 850.
Same sound system, and it has worked for several years.

Maybe the Din cable behind the radio?
Any other ideas?
